The jungle is always fascinating. People visit jungles to experience some thrill and fun in life while exploring both harmful as well as harmless fauna, along with mesmerizing flora. Besides, the jungle is also considered to be refreshing because people tend to find themselves away from the hustle of the city, in a pristine and calm environment, with occasional bird callings from distant, some soothing to the ears and some a bit scary- no pollution around. For those who are always looking for something deep and meaningful, the jungle is a place to learn and understand the relationship between nature and its components inhabiting the jungle and the mutualism that maintains the ecological balance. The animals always abide by the laws of nature, never try to harm it, and show ultimate cooperation. Let’s explore today one such heaven on earth- Nagarahole National Park.
This place has derived its name in a very interesting manner, from Naga (which means snake in Hindi) and Hole means streams. Locals also identify it by the name of Rajiv Gandhi National Park in Kodagu as well as Mysore. This national park has also been declared the thirty-seventh Tiger Reserve in India. Besides, it also holds the title of being a “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO. Three of the parks namely Bandipur, Mudumalai, and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary are adjacent to the Nagarahole.
This park is concerned with the protection as well as preservation of tigers and elephants under Project Tiger and Project Elephant. Moreover, it also houses the largest herd of Asiatic elephants in the world and innumerable species of birds, flora, and fauna including large predators, reptiles, gaurs, deer, bears, and smaller animals.
Since it is an important center for tiger reserves in India, it is a must-visit destination for all nature and animal lovers, particularly for those who are wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. While in Nagarahole National Park, your chances of spotting Bengal Tigers and Asiatic Elephants in their natural habitat are quite high. Besides, it also houses a large number of Wild Dogs, Leopards, and Bears. Commonly spotted animals are Wild Gaurs, Wild Boar, Sambar Deer, Antelope, Spotted Deer, and several species of birds.
