  • Over the years due to anthropogenic activities or climate change, the size of the lake has decreased to a great extent.
  • Therefore, the Government of Sri Lanka has banned fishing in this lake and has notified this lake to be a protected area.
Sigiriya

Also known as Sinhagiri, Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress which is situated near Dambulla town of Sri Lanka. This place holds archaeological significance for having a massive column of giant rock which is approximately 590 ft high. UNESCO has also declared it a World Heritage Site.

Nuwara Eliya

It is another city in the Central Province, Sri Lanka and its name means “City on the plain” or “City of light”. The honeymoon couples can visit this place because it is the prime location for tea plantations in Sri Lanka. The tallest mountain in Sri Lanka Pidurutalagala is situated adjacent to this city, which is another tourist attraction.

Polonnaruwa

Cuisine of Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan cuisine is famous for its particular combination of herbs, spices, fish, vegetables, rice, and fruits. People of Sri Lanka mainly use coconut in their dishes which is a ubiquitous plant throughout the country. Besides, seafood also plays a significant role in the glorification of Sri Lankan cuisine by adding some mouth-watering as well as taste bud-tickling dishes. Influences from Indian (particularly South Indian), Indonesian and Dutch cuisines are most evident with Sri Lankan cuisine sharing close ties to other neighboring South and Southeast Asian cuisines.
