Are you looking for an eternal experience and want to immortalize your romance under the azure sky in the lap of sun-kissed beaches? Then Lakshadweep is the right choice for you. The word Lakshadweep has been derived from a Sanskrit word that means “a hundred thousand islands” in Sanskrit and Malayalam. Though it is India’s smallest union territory its impact on the mind of tourists, particularly honeymoon couples are huge and unforgettable.
Lakshadweep is home to approximately 36 islands and is spread across an area of 32 sq km. Its capital city Kavaratti is also quite famous for its exotic locations. Lakshadweep has been able to hold its beauty and tranquility over the years because it has kept itself away from a rushed city lifestyle. Thus, couples who want to romance in privacy, and surrender their souls into the lap of nature can book the Lakshadweep tour package and visit the place.
However, in order to preserve the originality and essence of this place, the telecommunication services are quite weak here. Only BSNL and Airtel networks are available. The honeymoon couples using telecommunication services other than BSNL and Airtel will have to compromise a bit till their honeymoon period is over. Out of the 36 islands present in Lakshadweep, only 10 islands are inhabited and receive telecommunication service from BSNL. On the other hand, Kavaratti and Agatti islands receive the same from Airtel.
Local people call Minicoy Island Maliku the southernmost atoll of the Lakshadweep archipelago. This island is situated at a distance of approximately 425 km from the capital city of Kerala, Trivandrum. White sand and blue sea waves are enough to attract honeymoon couples to this place. In simple words, Minicoy Island is just straight out of a fairytale that mesmerizes people with its charm and is an ideal place for romantic couples. Thus, couples who want to spend some romantic days in isolation can book a holiday package tour and make their honeymoon super special.
Couples who are interested in water sports activities can go for Scuba diving and snorkeling. The couples can get exposed to marine life and get useful information about aquatic species if they are interested in exploring the unseen. This island can be enjoyable for both romantic as well as thrill-loving couples as well.
Agatti Island is another beautiful island of Lakshadweep which is famous for its lagoon. It comprises one of the most beautiful lagoons which make this place much more desirable for honeymoon couples. There is an airport present on this island. The couples can, therefore, arrive at Agatti Island by air. Since Indian Airlines can operate from this place, it is considered to be one of the most easily accessible areas of Lakshadweep. However, no road or railway connection to this place is available.
It is one of the Lakshadweep islands that are available for tourists. However, there are restrictions and the tourists are allowed only after attaining the Entry Permit obtained from the administration. There are only two hotels on Agatti Island:
The honeymoon couples visiting Agatti Island can hire a bicycle and explore the island peacefully.
There are options of exotic seafood that the honeymoon couples can try and relish their taste buds. For vegetarian couples, the menu can be customized under special request.
As we all know that most of the islands in the Lakshadweep archipelago are uninhabited due to the presence of a dense population of fauna which may induce some danger to humans. Thus, the majority of the islands in Lakshadweep are still unexplored. Out of the minimum fraction of islands that are accessible to humans, Kadmat Island is known to be an excellent treat for the eyes. It is also called Cardamom Island comprising of a lagoon (1.5 km width) spread across an area of approximately 25 sq km. The unique ecological features of this Island make it special and worth visiting. The coral reefs present here are covered with seagrass and the presence of marine turtles inhabiting the aquatic zone makes this Island desirable. The Government of Lakshadweep is trying its best to preserve the marine turtles and has therefore notified the island to be a marine protected zone.
Not only the marine turtles but other animals, plants, or any type of living species inhabiting in Lakshadweep archipelago are protected under the same rule. In recent times, there is an increase in damage to coral reefs (up to 10%) due to anthropogenic activities as well as climate change. Coral blocks that are found on the beaches are extracted by a group of people for the construction of building on this island which has further contributed to its damage. Hence, the Government of Lakshadweep has taken some strict actions to control these anthropogenic activities.
The population of this area is quite low and thus, honeymoon couples can totally have their privacy intact during their honeymoon period. They can cherish their romantic times in seclusion, away from the crowded city life. Kadmat Island is ideal for those couples who want to take a break from their regular busy lives and breathe in fresh and tranquil air surrounded by only greenery.
All the fun water sports activities are present here such as Snorkeling and Kayaking. And those couples who do not want to try the above-mentioned activities can also try out leisure activities such as relaxing in a glass-bottomed boat or Scuba diving.
The capital city of Lakshadweep archipelago, Kavaratti Island is situated at a distance of approximately 360 km from Kerala. Since this capital city has been selected by the Government of India as one of the hundred cities of India to be developed as a smart city (PM Narendra Modi’s flagship Smart Cities Mission), it is going to witness some drastic changes that will make it superior to other corresponding islands.
This island is quite different from other islands of Lakshadweep because it doesn’t contain white sandy beaches. Here, the beaches are warm and narrow. However, an abundance of marine species is seen in the lagoons of Kavaratti such as sea anemones, starfish, sea cucumbers, and many more. Couples can book their tour package and spend some time on this island for an amazing experience. Some of the fun activities that the couples can try on Kavaratti island are as follows:
It is another inhabited Atoll of Lakshadweep where the honeymoon couples can try out fun activities such as Scuba diving and Snorkeling. Since there is an abundance of Coral reefs in this area, the water always remains calm and shallow. Another small atoll is Bangaram which is teardrop shaped and is famous for its nighttime blue glow. The presence of marine species such as phytoplankton, algae, and jellyfish is responsible for this glow that attracts tourists.
The ideal time for the honeymoon couples to visit Lakshadweep is from October to Mid-May. Because it is generally rainy from May to September though the resorts remain available throughout the year.
